LOL, exactly what I was wondering! I'm almost hoping it's true, it'd be too bad to see another guy spoil that news princess. I'm not sure I can imagine that, well, I can imagine it of course, but I'm not sure if I can really see Bet as a lesbian. She just acts so girly half the time.
Ok, I just read through the transcript. Not the whole transcript of course, I don't care -that- much, but did a search on "married". I got to the part Tim (above) references, and read where Bet says her mom would love for her to have kids, but "that's another story". Anyway, I think the reaction Tim describes was part of their shtick, i.e. surrounding one of their (repeated) stories concerning how the date 7/7/7 is a lucky day to get married on. The "joke" was, TJ and Bet, both being single apparently, would be able to find luck if they married on the spot, due to the date 7/7/7. The ring, shown by Bet, may have just meant she's spoken for, but not implying anything more, although that wouldn't account for the choice of fingers. They also exchange scripted ha-ha's with Veronica when she suggests they can get married virtually, via the internet. I guess CNN Weekends need at least one stupid, fluff piece to script some light ha-ha's around, and this was it.
Googling "Betty Nguyen" and "Gay" or "Lesbian" coughed up a surprising number of CNN story links on Gay and Lesbian news headlines reported by her, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. My guess is, she's silly enough to wear the ring on the "wrong" finger (not knowing any better).
Come on guys. I think you're making too much of the placement of the ring. I think Betty was serious when she said her mother wanted her to get married and have children. I think Betty just hasn't found the right guy yet.
I agree Sabrina, she probably was speaking in general terms. Although what mom doesn't want their daughter to have kids? In any other format (i.e. where people are having actual intelligent discussion versus fluffy vapid news chatter), I'd say stating the obvious about Mom's wanting grandchildren but then adding "that's another story", would give one pause to determine the right interpretation. Given this is CNN regurg-a-news, with very few risks, I'd say Bet was just being chatty.
Anyone see her today? Looking DE-LICIOUS as always, but with the new hair doo, hair up in a bun thing. I'd like to know under what conditions that hair comes down and swayed quickly from side to side. Heh.
